Carnival season in Munich begins on the day after Epiphany and ends on Shrove Tuesday. This is Munich's legendary folk festival, featuring huge and smaller tents for enjoying a variety of beers and gourmet specialities, with traditional music and dancing, and a fun fair with wild rides, games and food stalls. Munich's Franz-Josef-Strauß Airport is located about 28 kilometres (17 miles) north-east of the city centre.
Munich has an efficient public transport system covering all areas of the city. It is by far the best option for getting around.

With an average of 2.5 taxis per 100,000 inhabitants, Munich is well-provided. This means of transportation can be very useful, as you can find a taxi on every street corner. Hail one or call one of the numerous local cab companies. EUR 1.70 per kilometre.
Riding a bike is an excellent way to get around Munich. With 1,200 kilometres of bike lanes, the city offers the largest rideable area of all German cities. You will find numerous bike rental agencies around (about EUR 18 for one day).

In Germany, as is also the case in France and Italy, when the service is especially friendly and attentive, leaving a tip is recommended and always appreciated. An appropriate tip in this case is anywhere between 5 and 10% of the bill at restaurants or bars. Do not leave the tip on the table. It is better to hand it to the server when paying the bill.
